Your Magical Mind
The human mind is the most powerful thing in creation and even experts are baffled by its mysterious ways...
But for us free and fresh thinking types, this is exciting stuff. Because what it means is - there are NO limits to what we can achieve. Â
The other night I was watching one of the Harry Potter films - The Half Blood Prince. Have you seen it?
Well if you haven't there is a scene where Harry puts a potion called "liquid luck" into his friend Ron's drink. Ron's about to play his first ever quadditch match for Gryffindor and is scared stiff. Everyone's laughing at him and he believes he's going to be a complete embarrassment for his house team.
As soon as Ron drinks the liquid luck though he transforms into the best player on the pitch and is named "man of the match".
But it turns out later on that Harry never put anything in the drink. He just let Ron think he did.
Either way, the result was still the same...
Ron believed he was going to have a great game due to drinking the "liquid luck".... so he did. No problem. In fact it was the best game he had EVER had and everyone was amazed by his performance.
Doesn't that tell you how powerful and magical your own mind truly is?
Whatever we tell ourselves becomes our way of thinking.... which influences our behaviour, choices and actions. But most importantly of all the results we're creating and experiencing in any given moment.
And this is not just my opinion. This is a psychological fact known as the "placebo effect".
In short... every outcome you could ever possibly imagine, good or bad - you can physically make happen.
You have that choice.
No "hocus pocus magic" is required because your mind is already magical and more advanced than anything else in creation.
Isn't that an empowering idea in itself? The fact that you already have everything you need inside of you to be, do or have anything you want?
You yourself could potentially be walking and talking "liquid luck" if you choose to believe it.
So play about with this concept today and see how you can apply it in your life. Perhaps in a work situation or even just walking down the street.
Imagine yourself as already having achieved the outcome and pretend to be that person. Even if it's only for a half hour.
It's so much fun so try it for yourself and see what happens 🙂
Love and Light,
Holly xx

Although I think positive thinking can be really good, I once did a one-day training seminar about preventing stress, and he had an interesting take on all this. He said that positive FEELING is more effective than positive thinking. So instead of thinking thoughts like “Everything is going to be alright” but secretly feeling like they won’t be, you try to picture positive things in your mind, and you think about things that make you feel good. By intentionally getting yourself into a positive emotional state, you are then in a better state to take positive action. What do you… Read more »
Hi Marcus, thank you for your feedback. You are absolutely right – positive thinking will do nothing if you do not feel and believe it. You have to literally tap into the emotion and use it to affirm your thoughts until your mind gets into that habit of mentality. It is not easy and does take a lot of practice, especially when you’re prone to being a hot head as I can be! This is what I love about self-development… it is a never ending journey as none of us are perfect, however we are all unique and have something… Read more »
There was a peacefulness to this article. I enjoyed it very much. The words were soothing and still made you think. I like how you jumped into the difficulty of positive thinking as well. Helps fight the resistance some people have out there for positive thinking. Your use of successful people who utilize positive thinking is brilliant as well. Good job
Thank you for your lovely feedback. It doesn’t matter who you are and what your circumstances are – positive thinking is something we can all practice in order to bring about change in our lives. It really is like magic actually and those who are rich and famous all have a specific mentality regarding their own potential. If you pay attention to how they speak and behave in interviews you’ll see what I mean. Have a lovely weekend 🙂
Lots of love & light Holly
I actually wrote a post about positive thinking myself recently, but I think yours is better. Beautifully written. And you are spot on. What we think is everything. Every action we take or don’t take is based on our thoughts, either conscious or unconscious. You have a very interesting and inspiring website. All the best to you.
Hi Darren, thank you for your encouraging feedback – it means a lot to know I am providing useful info that people enjoy reading. All the best to you too 🙂
This a good post! We definitely need that – positive thinking. It’s such a simple and effective concept, that positive thinking creates a positive life, yet hard to do at times. Most of us have thoughts flash across our minds every day and it directly influence how we feel and what we do. If you spend your day concentrating on positive things, good things will happen.I don’t believe people are born negative thinkers. It is essential to keep a positive mind as it is the basic to happier life! Thanks for sharing and I am looking forward to reading more… Read more »
Hi Alex,
Thank you for your comments – positivity is definitely the key to fundamental happiness, it just takes a lot of practice… but I find the best time is at the most challenging of moments! 🙂
I look forward to writing more articles in the weeks and months to come and I hope to engage with you more moving forward. Any ideas or feedback you have for me is most welcome. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Thank you
I do agree with what you wrote in this post as negative thoughts will only bring anger, hatred and etc. i always believe life is very short and we should make use of our time and energy to do something meaningful. Positive thinking will lead to positive energy and eventually do positive things to help our mankind. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Stanley,
You are absolutely right! It is so nice to know that people do try to think and live this way… there is already so much hatred and negativity in this world. If we all tried (even just a little) to think and approach life more positively it would make such a big difference individually as well as collectively.
Merry Christmas and wishing you a very positive & prosperous New Year!

Hi Holly,
I loved the post. The power of positive thinking really does have a lot to do with manifesting the results you want to see in your life. Your content is easy to read because it’s so conversational. I also checked out your about page and I love your personal touch and your story behind it all. And that’s how it should be! So great job!
Keep up the good work!
Hi Baldo,
Thank you for your lovely feedback – I am so pleased you have read through my pages and like my website overall. Hopefully I will see you on here more in the future and hear from you again 🙂
Happy New Year!

Hi Holly. In real life surprises and reality of positive thinking, positive filings and all interfaced names of synonyms, became another effective way for “legal” lie. It is easy to see how this approach make all society became numb on value of information. And I am on this side of cheated “pane”. I’m numb to any positive influence from word around me. And how this can be very destructive in life on long range, I already know. I have collected in my life “facts” which will prove my opinion on topics. I want and desire to change this. It is… Read more »
Hi Wojtek,
Thank you for your honesty. I do see your point to a degree, however it would be beneficial perhaps if we could talk further regarding your feelings on this. You indicated that you are numb to any positive influence in life, but you desire to change this. If ok with you, I will email you directly so that perhaps we can discuss this together in more depth and I can therefore gain a better understanding of your circumstances?
I look forward to speaking with you more shortly via email,
Holly xx
Wow, what a great post.
I completely see what you are saying here. I think the power of positive thinking is very strong in keeping someone well balanced and happy. I’ve definitely been a negative thinker in the past and always initially see the worst in things or people – I’ve now learnt to stop and rethink my initial thoughts to more positive ones and it does change how you feel.
I’m still training myself and very much look forward to reading more posts!
Sammi
Hi Sammi,
Thank you for your comment 🙂 May I ask what type of techniques you use to aid you in positive thinking? A lot of people are stumped by this as positive thinking becomes easier with practice but is hard to initially adopt. I would love to know what tricks and tips you use and perhaps I could share them on here?
Lots of Love, Light & Positivity,

Positive thinking can be more challenging because people are more attracted to what can be “seen.” Internal skill is underestimated because it’s not something that can be “seen.” But what’s behind all these successful people are not something that is “external” but “internal.” And it may take a long period to be disciplined in positive thinking. But it’s so worth it. There’s so much power to it. I wish more people can see the evidence of it and believe in it.
Yes Joon – that is so right on. People are fixated on the tangible elements and usually give up before seeing results (that if they even open their mind to the concept in the first place). Fears and limiting beliefs can take their toll and sadly stop people from ever really embracing true life for what it is meant to be – one big adventure where anything is possible if you want it and believe in yourself enough to make it happen! Thank you for sharing and also visiting thinktranquility.com 🙂
Happy New Year!!!

It is interesting that you mention Jim Carrey because he is in a wonderful movie called The Yes Man. I have seen the movie and read the book and since then I have tried to say yes to more opportunities because that is part of positive thinking. Saying no all the time can be a huge downer, but saying yes all the time actually makes you feel happier. And of course it opens you up to new experiences you would never have if you said no. I have been trying for about the last 5 years to be more positive… Read more »

I can’t agree enough. Life is about 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Choosing to react positively in a bummer situation will improve your outlook on life. I have been working on cutting negativity out of my life. If someone has a negative personality, I try to avoid associating with them. If I catch myself complaining, I refocus my thought on positive things rather than negative. When I really work at it, I notice a distinct improvement in my general temperament.
Yes Kyle – I completely agree with you! Minimizing negativity in all aspects of your life is so important – you seem to already be doing a great job. Have you noticed as well how when you are feeling positive, your day seems to flow a lot better and everything/everyone around you seems to shift to your energy level?
I would love to hear more specific examples and stories about your positive outlook and daily practice 🙂

Hi Holly,
Thank you for this great article. You are absolutely right. Sometimes, we can’t change the external conditions, but we have the power to decide how to think and feel about them. And that changes everything. Nevertheless, it is not easy not to be overwhelmed by negative emotions when we experience some difficult situations. But this is just the matter of exercise, like everything else in life. The key is to control our mind because it is the only thing that we can actually control in life.
Great website. I will come back.
All the best.
Maja
Hi Maja, You are absolutely right – when we can control our minds we are a much stronger position to deal with whatever is out of our control… whatever life has to throw at us so to speak. Even if its a hard situation and emotionally draining, the mind being in a focused and more positive frame will help us through it more so than it being cluttered and negative. I am delighted that you like my website and plan on coming back. Should you ever have any questions or would like me to cover a specific topic in one… Read more »
I believe in positive thinking. But my thoughts patterns from my youth have created a realist out of me. Sometimes I just feel like I’m lying to myself if I try to always be the optimist because I know nothing ever works out perfectly. My husband gives me grief about it because he feels that I bring him down.
Hi Sarah, thank you for reading and for your comment. Could you describe your thought patterns in more detail? It is good that you acknowledge this and are aware that your thoughts are an underlying reason for you not being able to have a more positive outlook on life. It sounds as if you have what’s known as ‘limiting beliefs’,which are created by repeatedly thinking the same thoughts, for example ‘I can’t do that’. If you would be willing to, I would love to discuss this further with you and help. Please email me on holly@thinktranquility.com Lots of love &… Read more »
Hi Holly
Thanks for bringing this topic to light. It is very hard to stay positive in the negative world that we live in. Almost everywhere you go there are murders and crime of some sort. Even in your personal life there will always be people that will do anything to make your life as negative as they can.
Hi Viljoen, You make a very good point and I do agree that it is very difficult to block out such negativity that we are surrounded by in the world also the challenges we fact in our own personal lives. Although, unfortunately these type of issues are out of our control to a degree but by noticing more of the positive attributes in the world and looking for the good in our own lives we can actually invoke more of it. A positive and optimistic mindset is also more capable of creating solutions and overcoming obstacles/problems in life that we… Read more »

Every time we turn on the news we are all swamped by negativity. We also carry the burdens of negative programming that have been with us with since we were children. This post was great because it helps the reader to focus on the power of positive thinking. Hi Braxa, I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed this article. The Secret was good in essence, however I do agree with you that it did not focus too much on practical every day living. Nor does The Secret address the issues of negative thought patterns and how difficult they can be to eradicate as we have developed them as children. You make some wonderful points and I am glad that you agree with the concept of positive thinking. Is this something you yourself practice daily? If so, what methods do you use if you don’t mind me asking?… Read more »
This is such a great post! Positive thinking has such a powerful influence on our lives. I believe it effects more than just our state of mind. It seems to have an effect on the world around us. Everything in life goes so much smoother when you have a positive mindset!
The most difficult part is staying positive through difficult times. Although I firmly believe everyone has it in them!
Hannah.
Hi Hannah,
Welcome back to thinktranquility.com 🙂 It is lovely to hear from you.
Mindset is an unlimited source of power that like you I truly believe in. Positive thinking can be difficult to apply but with practice and persistence it gradually becomes more habitual. Shoudl you wish, I can share with you some great personal tips and tricks 😉
Lots of Love, Light & Positivity sent to you,

I think positive thinking it’s a skill, what that means is that, if you practice it consistently, you eventually be better at.
To see the benefits you need to be consistently, and that’s why Some people think this is bananas… Because they give up almost immediately.
Thanks for the article, hope everything go positive in your life.
Hi Kevin,
Yes practice definitely makes perfect and you are so right – consistency makes it easier but it can be hard to adopt at first as it take a lot of conscious effort as most of us (myself included) do get into a habit of worrying, having doubts and fears and just thinking negatively overall. Affirmations and thinking of things to be grateful about usually help but it does take time. Thank you for reading and all the best with your own positive thinking & lifestyle 🙂
Lots of Love & Light to you

Thank you for this nice article! I definitely believe in positive thinking and how it brings about higher productivity because if we practice positive thinking by choosing better thoughts and how to see beyond the surface like lessons behind the failure, we learn not to stall ourselves at failure and move on more quickly! Thank you for giving such an objective viewpoint on positive thinking, can’t wait to see the methods you use to spur yourself towards positive thinking!
Thank you Jessen for reading and for your lovely, positive comments 🙂
There are many methods and ideas throughout my posts however, should you wish for me to share specific methods with you please let me know on holly@thinktranquility.com
Sending you lots of positivity!

I have always believed in the power of positive thinking. My mother always used to say, “You get what you expect,” meaning, if you expect to fail, for example, then that’s exactly what will happen! I also believe in the power of the universe, “The Secret” as it was popularly called a few years ago when that book came out. I believe in deliberate manifestation – using your mind and positive thoughts to literally manifest (make real) the circumstances you’re desiring. Wonderful article, and wonderful website. Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing Debra and I am so pleased you enjoyed my article. What are your tips for manifesting positive results?
Lots of Love, Light & Positivity,

The video is eye opening. I guess we really don’t realize how powerful thoughts are and our bodies are 60% water. Kind of freaky. The chain of events that positive thinking starts is amazing and at least worth trying. I do think that it’s not our problems that are the trouble it’s our perception of the problem. I know that implementing positive thinking is an ongoing proposition that gets easier but how long does it take to start to see a difference? Nothing worth having comes easily and positive thinking isn’t any difference. I would like to see some more… Read more »

Hi Holly,
First off, I’m a huge believer in the power of positive thinking. I haven’t yet mastered the art, but it’s a work in progress and I definitely see the results in my life when I do get my thoughts on the right wavelength for a period of time.
You’re right, it is a habit and not one that’s easily adopted. As humans it’s in our nature to think negatively far easily than positively for some strange reason. Thanks for the great post. It’s inspiring.
Hi Darren, thank you for your comment and feedback. It is hard to adopt but there are so many ways of practicing positive thinking every day. For example, waking up in the morning and saying – “Ok today is going to be a great day!” is a simple thing to do. Another effective habit is going through in your mind what you are grateful for or even writing a list daily. This shifts your mind into looking for more positive rather than negative. Do you believe in the law of attraction? You might find my post What Is the Law… Read more »

I definitely believe in and promote positive thinking; it’s one of the most important things that many more people should be putting into practice. I wouldn’t even be where I am right now in life if it wasn’t for a lot of time and effort on my part of trying to keep a positive mindset. Our world nowadays can make things easy for you to get distracted, take the focus away from your priorities, and next thing you know you’re welcoming toxic thoughts that weren’t even there before. I am generally a positive thinking person, and try to always think positively. And as you say, sometimes we get a lot of crap thrown at us, and that messes things up. It might rise my stress level a tad, but I always try to remember the positives in my life and not to dwell on the bad things that can happen. You can’t change anything that happens in life, might as well accept and just move on with, and learn.
Thank you Matt’s Mom! You are so right… we can’t be in control of everything but if we are in control of our minds that’s a start! Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂

I definitely am a believer in positive psychology! As I often philosophize about the human mind, I’ve come to realize that the mind is everything! If you feed it positive thoughts, I will more often than not be in a more positive state. I find that when I’m in a more positive state, I get more done, get BETTER work done and just enjoy my overall daily experience more 🙂 And while I have also hit rock bottom, I know it is much easier said than done. But I think that is when positive psychology is most important. Gotta believe… Read more »
Hi Koda, thank you for your thoughts & positive comments. It is harder said than done… your right but likle you said the more you practice it, the easier it will become to rely on when you most need it by believing in your own inner/mental strength. Thanks for reading! xx
Wishing you lots of positivity & peace,

I read your post with great interest. I’m a long time self-help junkie. I’ve heard of Shakti Gawain, but not Glenn Harold…so thanks for the introduction.
It’s so easy to be positive when things are flowing and going great. Another story when you lose your job or your spouse up and leaves, etc., … But no matter, everyone has their own story or version of hell. Personally, I’m so much better at staying positive when I meditate on a regular basis. Without it, all the other tools don’t seem to work as well. Thanks for your great post.
You are more than welcome Jackie. I hope my tips have been of some help to you. Thank you for reading and leaving a comment.
Good luck & all the best to you,

Hey positive thinking was my second name all the time! I have so much common with your article. Since I learned the benefits of being positive and using my mind to change my current state – I truly believe that it does help. However there is more to it, you need to literally rebuild your mind and energy, consciously, and only then it will truly affect you!
But otherwise your article is awesome!
Hi Alexey,
Thank you for reading and for your comments. It’s great to hear that you are so positive and resonate with my article! You are right – for sure positive thinking is certainly not a quick fix for something, but more a way of life and mindset.
With self discipline and will power (like most things) you will then see the magic of it start to work around you!
Thank you & sending you lots of positive energy 🙂

I do believe in the power of positive thinking. What first introduced me to this idea was the famous book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. The book teaches you how to discard all of the negative things that don’t allow you create a life of riches. It fits in perfectly with what your article was trying to explain.
Hi Chris, I have heard a lot about this book but am ashamed to say that I have not yet read it. May I ask you how it has helped you – would you mind sharing your story? I may write a post about it and study it myself if you think it is really helpful.
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you,
Holly xx
Good post. I think positive thinking is very important. People that don’t tend to think positive think that it would be a waste of time to do so. They think it’s just all make believe and that you are not seeing the facts. But in reality, I think it can be seeing tha facts. It makes you look at situations from a different angle and it is always nice to see a positive outcome in something that may seem like a dead end to many people.
Exactly – sadly some people are blinkered and will always see the negative… and as a result often find it! Although it can be challenging to think positive all the time – the same rule applies that if you look for something positive in every situation you will find it too.
Thank you for reading and commenting,
Holly xx
I agree with you – a positive outlook in life is the key to consistent happiness. But as the ups and downs are inevitable, we cannot Pollyanna our way through it also. I believe learning how to cope with difficult situations and emotions is also taking the positive route through life, instead of just shutting off everything and focusing on positive affirmations. Thank for this inspiring reminder!
Thank you Lily for your feedback. Of course balance is the key to life;as you say it is important to look on the bright side of life frequently, however having the ability to see real solutions to real problems is just as significant – what it boils down to is a matter of perspective ultimately, which determines our approach.
Thank you for reading! 🙂
Lots of love & light,
